Dennis Nilsen The Kindly Killer with Rational Sickness Professor Ramos Blog
Dennis Nilsen The Kindly Killer with Rational Sickness ââ¬Å"Mental Illness is the only disease that can make you deny its own existence. Certainly, the Idea that the brain can deny its own illness is a frightening thought.â⬠- (Tracy). No matter how sharp the dagger, I believe a serial killerââ¬â¢s most potent weapon is his character. We donââ¬â¢t truly understand what someone is going through, what pain or problems theyââ¬â¢re facing, but what we can understand is a grin. We often beg question what causes serial killers to kill? The answer is not so simple. Simply because the answer is a combination of causes, ranging from personal, life changing events to small, minor events. Sometimes these events generate something else thereby strengthening the violent behavior. Take the notorious ââ¬Å"The Muswell Hill Murdererâ⬠. Before the news of his atrocities, Nilsen was a hardworking, well like man in his community. He, just like any other normal person blended into society and hid his terrors. However, behind that kindly person, Nilsen is responsible for the torture, rape, and murder of 12 to 15 young men (Biography). His tactic was to invite them to his house and have drinks after they fell asleep, he strangled them and later cut their bodies apart same way Jeffery Dahmer another serial killer. Before diving into in of all the causes that drove Dennis Nilsen to become an infuriated man, it is important to shine light on his origin story, because even the serial killer has one. Dennis Andrew Nilsen was born on November 23, 1945 in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland (Wikipedia). Like most known killers, Dennis had a troubled childhood from abusive father, from the loss of his grandfather, not able express his sexuality and the controlled he desired, and was this a mixture of monster in the making. Was this what drove Dennis Nilsen ââ¬Å"The Muswell Hill Murdererâ⬠gone to a disturbing rampage cause him to do sinister act to those menââ¬â¢s. The first red flag was a rough childhood. According to the British Police, ââ¬Å"Neglect and abuse in childhood have been shown to contribute to an increased risk of future violenceâ⬠(Serial Killers). Neglect and abuse, how typical of modern-day mass shooters. Whether or not you become prone to violence in the upcoming, I think we can all agree that having a weak relationship with your parents will set you back will take a toll on how you grow up. The world of Criminal Justice even states that ââ¬Å"Serial murderers often come from broken homes and were child victims of parental physical abuseâ⬠(Serial Killers). His father was a Norwegian soldier who had travelled to Scotland in 1940 as part of the Free Norwegian Forces, following the German occupation of Norway (Wikipedia). Olav Nilsen did not view married life with any importance, being preoccupied with his duties with the Free Norwegian Forces and making little attempt to spend much time with his family or find a new home for his wife. Olav was an alcoholic and abusive to his wife and had affairs that cause his mother to have a mental break down had move back with her parents due trouble that she had with Olav (Serial Killers). Dennis father was not close to his all three children he conceive with Dennis mother Elizabeth. He admits that the drinking and the abuse they received from his father did cause him to drink and neglect everyone else. Having growing up without a father Dennis got close to his grandfather and whiteness death at a very young age and not knowing what ââ¬Å"DEATHâ⬠means can cause a mix of emotion. Dennis grandfather was like a father to him they got very close they took long walks around Scotland Peer, they went fishing together, and did a lot work together. When he found out that his grandfather had passed away he was coming back from school. His mother Elizabeth was in the kitchen and told him ââ¬Å"If you wanted to see your Grand Dadâ⬠Dennis was very happy that his grandfather was here to see him his mother Elizabeth told Dennis with a series look on her face well heââ¬â¢s here (Serial Killers). What the documentary states when they interview Dennis ââ¬Å"When he saw his grandfather on the kitchen table inside this coffin that he states that was the first time he witness deathâ⬠he was in state of shock (Serial Killers). He cried and had ask his mother ââ¬Å"where has he gon eâ⬠and his mother had replied ââ¬Å"to a better placeâ⬠and Dennis responded by ââ¬Å"if he went to a better placeâ⬠¦ why didnââ¬â¢t take me with him.â⬠(Serial Killers) In the documentary his psychiatrist stated witnessing his grandfather corps and the kitchen had shocked him. Having to whiteness something like Dennis had an effect on him. His mind he had known one else to talk to anymore he even stated that he wanted to take his own life so he could be close to his grandfather. At the onset of youth, Nilsen discovered he was homosexual, which initially confused and shamed of it. He kept his sexuality hidden from his family and his few friends. Because many of the boys to whom he was attracted had similar facial features as his younger sister, on one occasion he sexually fondled her, believing that his attraction towards boys might be a manifestation of the care he felt for her (Wikipedia). He made no efforts to seek sexual contact with any of the peers to whom he was sexually attracted, although he later said he had been fondled by an older youth and did not find the experience unpleasant. On one occasion, he also touched and stroked the body of his older brother as he slept (Wikipedia). As a result of this, Olav Jr. began to suspect his brother was homosexual and regularly belittled him in public referring to Dennis as hen (Scottish slang for girl) (Wikipedia). Nilsen initially believed that his fondling of his sister may have been evidence that he was bis exual. And later contribute to his victims since they were all men. Nilsen, actions made him a monster. Jeffrey Jerome Cohenââ¬â¢s Monster Culture, Thesis IV, The Monster Dwells at the Gates of Difference states, ââ¬Å"The monster is difference made flesh, come to dwell among us.â⬠(Cohen) When he committed these murders, he became different in society. He was able to kill people, have sex with them after death, slice them open and pull out their insides, and even keep their bodies around his household for comfort. Normally people do not do things like this. When stories like this get to your feet, it usually brings out abhorrence. So, then why is society fascinated with these types of monsters? There are so many biographies, documentaries, interviews, books, movies, and TV shows on serial killers for public to see. Cohen states in Thesis VI, Fear of the Monster is really a Kind of Desire, that, ââ¬Å"More often, however, the monster retains a haunting complexity.â⬠¦ ââ¬Å"And will always dangerously entice.â⬠(Cohen). People are dr awn in to hear the stories of who the monsters are and what the monsters have done because they want to satisfy a curiosity by understanding why someone would do such horrible things. So, the question that comes to mind is, what led Dennis Nilsen to kill? Mental illness played a big role. It caused him to have unhealthy thoughts he could not rid himself of, and the mix of alcohol and then a set of circumstances suddenly left him with no one in his life which easily broke his already unstable psychological condition. Taking a closer look into his life can bring a better understanding to why Dennis Nilsen turned to a life of murder. Nilsen characteristics was out of the ordinary people that new him couldnââ¬â¢t believe it, but he was someone who became a monster because of her vengeful spirit and mental illness. Study into the his life of Dennis Nilsen and the orders that lead Dennis down a road to his foreseeable transformation from kind heart soul to an indentation collecting killer leads one to believe that there was not just one event that caused this twisting into a life of atrocity but multiple contributing factors.à Factors such as the experience of dealing with the traumatic loss of his grandfather and his abusive father, also his sexuality and wanting control. These were contributed to the formation of a monster ââ¬ËDennis Nilsen.ââ¬â¢ Work Cited: Cohen, Jeffrey Jerome. ââ¬Å"Monster Culture: Seven Theses.â⬠From Monster Theory: Reading à à à à à à à à à Culture. Observation Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 2
Observation - Assignment Example After calling the pharmacy to consult on the use of aspirin during pregnancy, the following observations were made; the phone was answered after 3 minutes. First the phone was answered by machine, but after following the instructions, it was immediately re-directed to a real person who was fluent in English. The person who answered was very respectful and asked how they could help. After sharing the question, they requested to get some more background information first before proceeding to answer the question. The person was knowledgeable and helpful but seemed to follow a set of questions or a certain protocol while interacting. Out of five, Walgreen deserves to be ranked number three because of its proper services and adherence to protocol. The following recommendations would assist in fixing customer service deficiency; Walgreens contact centre provides its clients with access to a comprehensive array of medical services, all of which are offered through one phone call. In conventional consultation, one doctor is only able to cater for one specialty area, while the contact centre provides access to all the services available in the facility. This benefits the customer and improves their experience in using the services of Walgreens. Similar to the need of having well informed agents at the introductory point of contact in the hospital, the customer care agents have sufficient information on the operations of the hospital (Calvert, 2004). Walgreens customer care agents handle a wide range of cases and are able to perform different tasks over the phone while still communicating with the client. They can trace a client in the facility, schedule appointments with the doctor for the caller, among other crucial tasks. Contact centre staffs are regularly the first face of the medical facility. Walgreens customer care agents are well

Microeconomics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 16
Microeconomics - Essay Example Macroeconomics is similar to this except that it deals with a countryââ¬â¢s GDP, trade figures, and unemployment rates (ââ¬Å"Whatââ¬â¢sâ⬠). These two economic principles go hand-in-hand because they each compliment each other. For example, the purchasing decision of an individual consumer would have an effect on the greater country as a whole, no matter how big or small. Looking at it from the other perspective, a macroeconomic decision taken by a government will have an effect on the spending habits of a single consumer. Microeconomics is largely to do with the prices of regular goods and services and how they affect a market. If a market is not doing so well, maybe the prices of goods and services need to be lowered. On the other hand, if the economy is doing above average, maybe the prices of goods and services need to be raised. This is largely due to the need to control inflation, which has more to do with macroeconomic decisions (Fox). Macroeconomics is concerned w ith economic growth and the discrepancies in national income, or GDP (ââ¬Å"Differenceâ⬠). An example of an economic decision that I could make would be the purchase of some new running shoes. If the price is too high, then I will put off my decision to purchase a new pair. Alternatively, I could look for another pair that is cheaper and more in my price range. Before making the final purchasing choice, I would find a selection of running shoes and evaluate of pair based on its pros and cons. Factors that I would consider in making my choice would obviously be price, followed by quality. Ultimately, my final choice would come down to the best pair of running shoes that I could buy in terms of durability and how comfortable the shoes are. An example of a macroeconomic decision that has affected me has been the raising of the minimum wage level. When a government chooses to raise the minimum wage, a consequence of

School Uniforms Essay Example for Free
School Uniforms Essay This essay will discuss about school uniforms. This is important because school uniforms is a big topic with a lot of opinion, so now i will tell my opinion about it. As an example for a pro argument is that every student would be seen as equal. And for a counter argument would be that they cant express their own individuality. It is firmly my belief that school uniforms is not needed in school. One of the most common argument that you hear is about bullying. But if someone in the school wants to bully someone they dont care about the clothes that the person is wearing. So what i mean is that even if we would have uniforms they will find something else to bully the person for. But it might make people understand that they should not judge people of what they are wearing. A lot of people talk about individuality, and a uniform would stop so that you cant express yourself through your cloths. And this is an important time in a teens life to be able to find yourself, where you belong and where you feel comfortable. And this will affect how you are as a person when you become older. But on the other hand you should be able to express yourself through your appearance not only buy clothes. A big problem with school uniforms would cost for the uniforms. It would not be that much of a cost , but if you have more than one child it would be a lot of money in the length of time and especially when the children is in the state of growing so they would need to buy new uniforms quite often. to summarize it all together, it would be hard to say to the students that they would need to wear uniforms because we need our clothes to feel safe as who we are and it would not live up to what they expected as a result if we were given uniforms. This is a big topic that have both pro and cons argument but mine opinion will always be against school uniforms.

How to Write a Personal Narrative Essay :: Personal Narrative Writing
How to Write a Personal Narrative Essay There is very little mystery to writing the personal narrative essay. There is no proper topic for such an essay. An essay can be about a variety of personal experiences. You, the writer, have the right to say what you want about your personal experience. You can write about anything -- Aunt Sally, the funky necklace you bought at a garage sale, the harrowing experience of being stuck in an elevator, the best Christmas you ever had, the worst day of your life. No topic or subject is off-limits; therefore there are endless opportunities to write an essay about your personal, point-of-view of what happened. Often the reason behind wanting to write a personal essay is unclear. Once the writing begins and the events are recorded and recounted it becomes clear that the writer is searching to find the meaning, the universal truth, the lesson learned from the experience. When writing, rewriting and good editing coalesce, a personal narrative essay becomes a beautiful thing. It shows how the past or a memoryââ¬â¢s significance affects the present or even the future. We all have stories to tell. But facing a blank page is intimidating. Knowing where to begin becomes a real dilemma. A good place to start is with the word I. Write I was, I saw, I did, I went, I cried, I screamed, I took for granted. I is an empowering word. Once you write it on the page it empowers you to tell your story. Thatââ¬â¢s exactly what you are going to do next. Tell the story. Get it all out. Donââ¬â¢t worry about how many times I appears in the text. Donââ¬â¢t worry how scattered and unfocused thoughts are. Write however your mind tells you to write. This style is often called freewheeling writing or stream of consciousness. Once the story is all down on paper you will go back and begin to shape the essay into a form that says exactly what you want it to say about your experience. If youââ¬â¢re discouraged over what youââ¬â¢ve written, back away from it. Let it rest. Take a walk. Do something that distracts your mind from writing the essay. Many writers fi nd that even while doing something other than writing, their writing mind continues to work out what needs to be said and continues to uncover the multi-layered associations and voices of what theyââ¬â¢re writing about.

To execute this, the researchers applied Descriptive Research which falls under the category of a Non-experimental design. A total of 44 respondents were chosen with the use of Purposive Sampling as guided by the qualifications set. Self-Recording/Reporting Approach was used to collect the data with the utilization of a questionnaire. To describe and summarized the data, Inferential Statistics was used. The weighed mean was computed to utilize for the Pearson Product-Moment correlation to examine the relationship between the attitudes and motivations of high achieving students and their academic success in science. FINDINGS: 1) Is there an existing relationship between studentââ¬â¢s attitudes and academic success? By using the Pearson product moment correlation, the researchers found out that thereââ¬â¢s an existing significant relationship between the 2 variables. It has a high correlation shows that studentââ¬â¢s attitudes greatly affect the academically status of the student. (Respondents donââ¬â¢t find science as an interesting subject, thatââ¬â¢s why their academic success can have an average grade of 85-88) 2) Is there an existing relationship between studentââ¬â¢s motivation and their academic success in science? CONCLUSION: The researcher, conclude that there is an existing relationship between studentââ¬â¢s attitudes & motivations to their academic success in science. There are also factors that can affect academic performance. These factors might be an advantage or disadvantage and might be classified as learning environment, school facilities, teacherââ¬â¢s teaching method & the attitude and motivation of the student toward the subject as well. Based on the study, the studentââ¬â¢s donââ¬â¢t find science as an interesting subject but they can be motivated. Thus, the hypothesis is rejected since it was ascertained in the study that there is a significant relationship between studentââ¬â¢s attitude and their academic success. RECOMMENDATION: It is therefore recommended that even if the school facilities are perceived as adequately available and accessible for use, they should improve further for maximumutilization and more effective science instruction. Furthermore, the studentââ¬â¢s should be given hands-on experiencesin the subject and may enhance their understanding on the subject. The school should be design a teacher development program that would maximize the teacherââ¬â¢s capabilities and enhance their effectiveness in teaching subject which may focus on the content of the subject. The teachers should be sent to seminars in the divisional, regional levels so that they could become better & more effective in teaching science, thereby raising the studentââ¬â¢s performance in the subject. It is also manner of satisfying their professional needs and for personal enrichment. Moreover, teachers should integrate values in every lesson as part of value formation. The teachers should give emphasis on creative approach in learning since this is where the students could expressed themselves in terms of creativity & critical mindedness relative to the subject matter. The school heads should intensify the monitoring on the implementation of the DepEdââ¬â¢s programs, designed to improve the studentââ¬â¢s performance. The students should be encouraged to develop a good study habits so that they could also perform better in the subject. Researchers also recommend the overviews of the Tools for Teaching by Barbara Gross Davis. Give frequent, early, positive feedback that supports studentââ¬â¢s beliefs that they can do well. Ensure opportunities for studentââ¬â¢s success by assigning tasks that are neither too easy nor too difficult. Help studentââ¬â¢s find personal meaning and value in the material. Create an atmosphere that is open and positive. Help students feel that they are valued members of learning community. (Jossey-Bass Publishers:San Francisco, 1993)
